Colonel Purohit's bail plea in Malegaon blasts case rejected
The NIA said that he had taken part in the conspiracy.
The Bombay high court has denied the bail plea filed by Lt Colonel S Purohit in connection with the Malegaon blasts case. The same court that granted Sadhvi Pragya Singh bail in the case refused to entertain the application filed by Purohit.
The National Investigation Agency had opposed Purohit's plea for bail and submitted that there existed adequate prima facie evidence in the form of audio and video recordings, call detail records and witness statements. All this suggests that Purohit had played a major role in the case, the NIA contended. The NIA said that he had taken part in the conspiracy.
Purohit contended through the previous hearings that NIA had been selective in exonerating some accused persons and that the agency had made him a scapegoat in the case. He had also claimed that the evidence against him was manufactured by the ATS, and that he had already spent eight years in custody as an undertrial.
