Chennai, July 16: After Bengaluru, now it's Chennai where a Class III student was sexually harassed inside a private school. Computer teacher of the school has been accused of sexually harassing the girl.
The 45-year-old accused has been identified as M James Maria Gnanaraj. After registering a complaint, Chennai Police arrested the teacher from his residence. The accused, who is a divorcee, has been working in the school for last five years.
According to reports, parents of the victim had taken her to a government hospital for check-up as she had complained of pain at her private parts. Doctors at the hospital conducted a few tests and found that she was sexually assaulted.
While asked, the child revealed everything to the doctors and to her parents. It has been claimed that the teacher had lured her to an empty class room of the third floor of the school.
He then sexually assaulted her and threatened her not to disclose anything to her parents and to any other teacher of the school.
After taking statements from the child, doctors of the government hospital filed a legal complaint against the teacher. A case under section 9 (F) (staff of educational or religious institution committing sexual assault on a child in the institution) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act, 2012 was booked against the accused.
According to sources, the victim has recovered from the initial trauma. She has been referred to a child gynecologist.
