Bellandur lake froth: Karnataka looks to Hungary

Bengaluru, Dec 1: Will Hungary save the day for Bengaluru? Well it just may as Karnataka has sought the help from Hungary to help solve the frothing problem at the Bellandur and Varthur lakes.

The state government has been finding it a nightmare to deal with the frothing of the Bellandur lake and with each passing day the public fury has been increasing.

Lake froth: Karnataka looks to Hungary

Karnataka government officials met with experts from Hungary who in turn have assured of a permanent solution to the problem.

A delegation comprising Bengaluru Development Minister K J George met with experts from Hungary and explained to them the problem and also sought suggestions on how to address pollution of water bodies.

Water bodies to be cleansed:

The experts from Hungary have assured that they will find a solution to the problem. They will visit the Bellandur and the Varthur lakes and study the issue.

Following this they will provide the government of Karnataka with a formal proposal on how to tackle the issue. The proposal would be submitted to the Chief Minister of Karnataka, Siddaramaiah.

The state government which is in talks with Pureco Ltd, the firm which has promised to address the problem has assured that any suggestion given would be implemented. The government roped in this firm as it has a track record of providing solutions in such matters.

The frothing of the lake has become a major bone of contention with experts alleging that it is producing toxic waste. Residents have come out in the open and voiced their protest against the lethargy of the officials.

Several residents say that the problem is linked with the rapid rise of urbanisation and the authorities have failed to put in place a necessary mechanism to control the problem.
