After sexual assault case, Asaram Bapu faces another controversy
An RTI activist -- Rajendra Gupta on Wednesday, Sept 4 filed a complaint with the district collector bringing the issue over Asaram's ashram. The complaint says that Asaram was given 9.859 hectares of land in 1998 by the administration. The land ideally belonged to the city, at a lease of Rs 1.
Gupta, who earlier in 1998 had filed another complaint against the ashram, said that the land was supposedly given to build a yoga centre and a garden. However, Asaram was accused of violating the terms.
Asaram took more land than was allotted to it
Gupta claimed that the land was being used for commercial purposes. A store has been built up on the land where herbal medicines, publications and medical consultations are sold to make profits to the ashram trust. The ashram allegedly had taken more land than was allotted to it.
72-year-old Asaram currently has been lodged in Jodhpur Central Jail in connection with a sexual assault case. He was accused of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old minor girl in his ashram near Jodhpur, Rajasthan.
A court in Jodhpur on Wednesday rejected Asaram's bail plea. The self-styked godman would remain in jail till Sept 16 as he was sent to 14-day judicial custody on Sept 2.
