1 constituency per MLA, 2 per MP: Amit Shah tweaks UP strategy to suit Karnataka
Amit Shah's three-day visit to Bengaluru ends on Monday but goals have already been set for the party to achieve in the next two months
BJP is using its Uttar Pradesh strategy in Karnataka ahead of the assembly elections, albeit with some tweaking. BJP national President Amit Shah has assigned constituencies to MLAs, MLCs and MPs to concentrate on for the next few months. Every MLA and MLC has to work in one constituency each while every MP has to work in two constituencies.

Reports on developments in the constituency under each legislator have to be updated time to time and all records will be handled by Amit Shah himself. This is the BJP President's first task for MLAs, MLCs and MPs. In a series of meeting held in Bengaluru over the last two days, legislators, parliamentarians have been asked to sit with district-wise, ward-wise and panchayat-wise workers and leaders to effect change from the grassroots levels.
The move is aimed at capitalising on BJP's strengths and working on its weaknesses in every minute level of each constituency in Karnataka. In-charges have been asked to show improvement in the next two months. All energies will now be channelised on making inroads in places where the BJP is a non-entity and holding on to support in places where other parties pose a challenge.
What BJP did in Uttar Pradesh
Very similar to the assignment given to Karnataka legislators and parliamentarians, Amit Shah had chalked out constituencies for Uttar Pradesh BJP leaders ahead of the election. His strategy worked wonders and brought the BJP a massive landslide victory.
In Uttar Pradesh, each MLA was asked to spend five days in a month in two other constituencies apart from their own. Every MP was assigned the task of spending 10 days in two other Lok Sabha constituencies apart from their own. 40 MLAs went to assembly constituencies where the had BJP lost in the previous elections. 59 BJP MPs went beyond their Lok Sabha constituencies and campaigned for the party.
Lesser constituency, more impact in Karnataka
In Karnataka however, each MLA has been assigned just one constituency while an MP has to visit two constituencies. "Some MLAs said that they can do two constituencies at a time but Amit Shah had just one thing to say to them. "Concentrate, focus on one and bring me results". Starting now, all orders will be carried out and we hope to see some changes at the grassroots levels soon," said a source privy to the meeting where the decision was taken.
