Karnataka Weather Alert: Is Bengaluru About To Receive Much-Needed Rain During These 5 Days?

Amid water crisis, Bengaluru residents can expect rainfall from mid-April, specifically around the 13th or 14th, following the Ugadi festival. The prediction comes from the Extended Range Forecast (ERF), which provides insights into weather patterns beyond the typical short-term forecasts.

The water crisis in Bengaluru has been exacerbated by depleting groundwater levels, poor water management practices, and the failure of monsoons in recent years. Many areas in the city are already facing severe water scarcity, with residents relying on water tankers for their daily needs.

Bengaluru Rains On April 13

Yet another GFS forecast model, comes as a ray of hope for Bengaluru, offering the prospect of replenishing water sources and providing relief from the scorching summer heat. According to the GFS model, the rains are expected to start over parts of South Interior Karnataka (SIK) from April 14th, with estimates ranging from 30 to 40mm in Bengaluru, 60 to 70mm in Mysuru and Chamrajanagar district, and 80 to 90mm in Kodagu-DK-Udupi Ghats.

While the GFS model is not the most accurate, even a 50% realisation of these estimates by April 20th would be welcomed by residents. The normal April rainfall for Bengaluru is 40-50mm, and the predicted rains are increasingly hinting at the end of the city's long dry season in the third week of April.
