Kerala: 5-yr-old boy tortured by parents
Thiruvanantpuram, July 18: In a shocking incident, a five-year-old boy, Shafeeque, has been reportedly tortured by his father and his step-mother in Kottayam district of Kerala.
According to doctors at St John's Hospital at Kattappana in Idukki district, "the boy has received serious head injury, a broken leg and wounds all over the body."
Due to critical condition, he has slipped into coma and is on ventilator support since Tuesday. The doctors fear that boy may suffer permanent brain damage if he survives.
According to NDTV report, the boy's accused father Sherif and stepmother Aneesha were arrested for attempt to murder and produced before a court in Peermedu in Idukki which remanded them to 14 days in judicial custody.
The police said the boy has a brother who lives in an orphanage.
"The child had deep injuries on his head and chin and his body was battered by nails", doctors told the police.
According to another report, he was made to walk with broken legs and when he faltered and crawled, his parents caned him. There were days where he was forced to sit on a hot bag of sand. His private parts were also assaulted with objects.
The boy, who is battling for life, has not responded to the medicines, a medical bulletin said.
Sherif and Aneesha lied to the doctors saying that boy suffered injuries after falling while taking bath.
Some reports also suggested that boy was being tortured and brutally beaten from last three years.
The state government has decided to bear the expanses of the treatment of the minor boy.
