5 bomb blasts rock Pune, two reportedly injured

Pune, Aug 1: Latest reports: The blasts occurred at a heavily populated area, especially the student community. Latest reports suggest that a total of five blasts occurred. The fifth blast is understood to have struck outside the Khyber bar. Two people have been injured. NIA teams are rushing from both Mumbai and Delhi to Pune. 

Newly appointed Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde was scheduled to visit Pune's Bal Gandharv theatre on Wednesday evening but later cancelled it. This blast is sure to raise some pertinent questions on the security situation in the country.

Pune, Aug 1: Four bomb blasts rocked Pune creating a panic situation in the area. The blasts reportedly took place near Dena Bank, Bal Gandharv theatre and a McDonalds outlet on the Jungli Maharaj Road. After less than an hour, a fourth blast took place at Garware Chowk in the city. No casualties have been reported so far. All the blasts happened within a radius of 1km. The first explosion was reported around 7.30 pm. The series of blasts occurred between 7.30 and 8.30 pm.

Gulabrao Pol, Pune Police Commissioner has ruled out a terror angle and say that this was the work of some mischief makers. No terror groups have taken responsibility for the low intensity blasts.

The bombs were placed in a garbage can and a cycle carrier. As soon as the blast took place, bomb squads rushed to the place and cordoned off the area. 

The blast was of low intensity in nature.
