New Delhi, Jan 4: In what can be suspected as a case of revenge politics, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) raided the residence of former Family Welfare Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Babu Singh Kushwaha. The raids were carried out in connection with the financial misappropriations in the supply of medicines and medical equipment in the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM).

Kushwaha had recently shifted alliances after he was sacked by the BSP following corruption charges. The BJP had welcomed him into their party on Tuesday. The upcoming UP Assembly polls is seeing power equations being altered. BJP has rubbished all allegations against the former Minister by saying, "The UP Chief Minister is directly responsible for corruption in the state. There are no charges against Kushwaha. He has been made a scapegoat for face-saving by Mayawati."

The CBI are also carrying out raids in the premises of other officials and contractors associated with the NRHM scam. The raids occurred on Wednesday morning in as many as 15 places in Uttar Pradesh including Lucknow, Kanpur, Moradabad and also in Delhi. Tuesday saw an FIR being filed on those related to the scam.
