MiD DAY journo death: Chhota Shakeel mocks at police claims
The daily, Times of India reported Chhota Shakeel as saying, "I have nothing against Dey. I was never affected by Dey's writings. Why should I kill an innocent person?"
"Now I am surprised that my name is linked to the killing. I do not know Shaikh or Hatela," Shakeel was quoted as saying.
On Wednesday, Jun 15 police had detained four people in relation with the murder case which has created ruckus in the country, especially in Mumbai and Pune.
Police also succeeded in trapping the vehicle which was used by the assailants. The three detained people were - Iqbal, Hatela and Manteen who reportedly belong to Chhota Shakeel's mafia group.
Meanwhile, one of the accused Hatela claimed that he became the scapegoat of a conspiracy targeted against him (Hatela). Mumbai police also inquired some businessmen regarding the murder case.
Many assume Mumbai smugglers killed Dey as his cover reports exposed many sandalwood and oil/diesel smuggling rackets.
J Dey was brutally killed on Jun 11 when he was shot dead in the broad daylight outside his Mumbai residence in Powai. He was working as the chief crime reporter with MiD DAY.
