Srinagar, Feb 25 (PTI) Schools in Kashmir Valley willreopen on March 1 after a two-month long winter vacation.
"The Government has ordered reopening of educationalinstitutions including recognized private schools up to HigherSecondary level of Kashmir Division, excluding Ladakh region,from March 1, 2011 after observing winter vacations," anofficial spokesman said.
The high and higher secondary schools in the Valleywere closed on December 29 last year following heavy snowfall.
Although the middle and primary schools were closed for wintervacation on December 15, the Education department decided tocontinue the schooling for higher classes to make up for theloss of academic time during last year''s summer unrest.
The schools in Kashmir Valley usually close fortwo-and-half-month winter vacations in the second week ofDecember.
All the schools have been directed to observe theacademic calendar issued by the government.
"Action will be taken against those who do not follow thecalendar," the spokesman said.
