Protest demanding arrest in girl harassment case
Jaipur, Feb 3 (PTI) Rights activists today staged aprotest here demanding arrest of two policemen who hadallegedly attempted to sexually harass a girl in a city policestation.
Following the alleged incident last month, the girl hadattempted to commit suicide by jumping before a train butsurvived with injuries in her legs and was hospitalised.
After the two-hour demonstration, the protestorssubmitted a memorandum to the Additional District Collectordemanding immediate arrest of then SHO of Pratap Nagar policestation Ramnivas Vishnoi and Head Constable Lal Chand Meena,and removal of the entire staff of the police station.
They sought compensation of Rs 50 lakh and a flat to thevictim, a government job to her if she recovers and bookingthose accused in the incident for abetment to suicide.
The girl had accused the SHO and Head Constable ofattempting to harass her sexually in the name of questioningafter one of her friends went missing.
"Neither the girl was an accused nor any prior notice wasserved to her for interrogation. She was called at the policestation and policemen tried to harass her sexually," KavitaSrivastava, one of the activists, alleged.
After the incident came to light, the state governmenthad suspended both the policemen and announced a financialhelp of Rs 10 lakh for the victim.
Meanwhile, sources in the CB-CID said that Vishnoi,appeared before the agency today in connection with theinvestigation.
