Enrol poor family students or face action: govt to pvt schools
Patna, Feb 3 (PTI) The Human Resources Department of theBihar government today directed private schools to giveadmission to students from poor families under the Right toEducation Act or be prepared to face action.
The private schools must abide by the REA by givingadmission to students from poor families for which a provisionof 25 per cent seats has been mooted in the Central Act, theHRD Principal Secretary Anjani Kumar Singh told reporters.
Strict action would be taken against the private schoolsfor non-compliance of the provisions of the REA, he said.
On reports that private schools were proposing to makeseparate arrangements for students of poor families beingenrolled in compliance with REA, Singh said these schoolswould not be allowed to construct separate infrastructure orprovide separate classes to students of the economicallyweaker sections.
The HRD would scrap registration of such schools fordiscriminating between the regular students and those frompoor families, the principal secretary said.
On the high fees being charged by the private schools,Singh said the state government would pay an annual fee of Rs2800 per student from poor economic background as has been thenorm in this regard.
