WB to clear compensation to kin of Netai injured by Jan 27

Kolkata, Jan 24 (PTI) The West Bengal Government todaydirected payment of compensation latest by January 27 torelatives of villagers, who were injured firing from analleged CPI-M armed camp at Netai village in West Midnaporedistrict, state Chief Secretary Samar Ghosh said here.

"We have received report of the medical board set upto finalise the list of injured at Netai village and directedthe payment of compensation to the relatives of those injuredby tomorrow or latest by January 27," Ghosh said.

Acting on a Calcutta High Court directive, the stategovernment had earlier stated that it would pay compensationto the relatives of those killed and injured in the January 7firing at Netai village.

Ghosh said bank accounts of the relatives of those whowere killed have already been opened and compensation of Rstwo lakh each of the nine victims have been deposited with theaccounts of their relatives.

A medical board, headed by Director of HealthServices, was constituted to examine the nature of injury tofix the compensation amount.

Quoting the medical report, Ghosh said the 15 injuredpeople will get compensation of Rs 1 lakh each and Rs 50,000each for 13 others injured.

The court had directed that the kin of the killedshould be paid Rs two lakh each, the seriously injured Rs onelakh each and those with minor injuries Rs 50,000 each withinseven days.

To a question, Ghosh said he was yet to receivereports about progress of investigation into the firing.

"Anyhow we must get it and submit to the court on February 4,"Ghosh said.
