Assocham to promote organic farming in UP
Lucknow, Jan 16 (PTI) To promote organic farming in UttarPradesh, industry body Assocham has decided to adopt fivedistricts in the state.
"The Assocham has decided to develop five districts in UPas organic districts and a delegation of the association willsoon meet Chief Minister Mayawati in this regard," its generalsecretary D S Rawat told PTI.
He said under the plan, training will be imparted tofarmers of these districts, besides promoting medium and smallenterprises in the state by developing 25 clusters on publicprivate partnership (PPP) basis.
When asked the names of districts, Rawat said, they willbe decided after meeting the state Chief Minister.
"The farmers will be given training in carbonic farmingfor three years and they will be given certificates by globalagencies," he said.
Rawat said that by adopting carbonic farming andmarketing the products with the help of Assocham, income offarmers will increase by 200 per cent.
"Despite a huge global market of organic products,carbonic farming is negligible in UP. The Assocham has fixed atarget of exporting organic products of Rs 1,000 crore in thenext three years," he said.
Currently, market of organic products in Europe andAmerica is around Rs two lakh crore against which products ofonly Rs 450 crore are being exported from India, he said. PTIABN PG
