Truck falls into gorge, 23 die in Uttarakhand
Dehradun, Aug 2: Twenty three pilgrims from Haryana were killed when a truck in which they were travelling to Gangotri fell into a gorge in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand, which has been lashed by torrential rains during the last two days.
The incident took place at Dabrani on Rishikesh-Gangotri national highway, when the truck fell into the 150 meter-deep gorge killing 23 shiv devotees, Uttarkashi District Magistrate Saurabh Jain said.
20 bodies have been fished out by the police from the accident site.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhariyal Nishank has also ordered a magisterial probe into the incident.
Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda expressed deep shock and grief over the deaths and said that his government will be in touch with the administration of Uttarkashi to bring back the bodies.
