Want to defame a Hindu Swamiji? Make a sex tape

Mangalore, Apr 7: With the police nabbing three people involved in creating a fake sex tape to defame Sri Raghaveshwara Bharati Swamiji of Ramachandrapur Mutt, the week-long controversy has reached another level.

The Mangalore police which arrested the three culprits is still on the look out for nine others involved in the conspiracy. Those arrested include resident of Kotiteertha, Ravi Kodlekara alias Balachandra Prabhakara Kodlekara(26), Shivarama Adi (29) resident of Ratha beedi, Gokarna and Gajanana Samba Upadhyaya (42).

It has been revealed that the video was recorded in a Kerala guesthouse by using a look-alike as a stand-in for the swamiji.

The alleged sex tape of the godman hit the headlines early in Apr 2010, at the time when the sleazy video of another Karnataka spiritual guru, Swami Nithyananda, which emerged in Mar 2010, was still a hot topic.

The attempt to defame Sri Raghaveshwara Bharati raised a storm across the state with various outfits and individuals coming to the support of the swamji and alleging that there was increased attempts to sully Hindu Swamijis and in turn Hinduism.

Sri Raghaveshwara Bharathi Swamiji is best known for his campaign towards save the cattle and preserving the Indian cow breed. One of his popular campaign is the 2007 'Vishwa Gou Sammelana', a nine day world conference and festival on Indian cows.

The swamiji probably most well-known for the controversy over taking charge of the Mahabaleshwara Temple in Gokarna, in Uttara Kannada district.

Besides the murky part of the transfer of 'public property' to a 'private' player, there were reports of apparent rift between the former administrative powers and Sri Raghaveshwara.

In connection with this controversy, there are speculations that there exists a group of people, who would actually gain from dethroning Sri Raghaveshwara Bharathi Swamiji. This stemmed from the fact that the priests at the Gokarna temple had to lose a lot of revenues following the entrance of Raghaveshwara swamiji.

This raises the question if creating a sex tape has become the favourite and the ultimate choice of revenge against Hindu Swamijis by people with vested interests.
