Firozabad, Nov 12: Samajwadi Party's Akhilesh Yadav accepted the 'challenge' thrown at him by Rahul Gandhi setting up the stage for a face off.
"I have not challenged anybody but if I am challenged, I will accept it," Yadav said on Thursday, Nov 12.
This comes after his wife, Dimple Yadav lost the Lok Sabha by polls in Uttar Pradesh's Firozabad seat against Congress' Raj Babbar. Congress' victory in the constituency has been attributed to Rahul Gandhi's aggressive campaigning in the state.
Addressing a press conference with his wife, Akhilesh Yadav took a dig at Rahul Gandhi by congratulating him for Congress' victory in Firozabad, and adding that he should also accept the blame for his party's defeat in the Assembly bypolls.
In the Assembly bypolls Congress won only one of the 11 seats that went into polling.
The bypolls for the Lok Sabha seat in UP was necessitated after Akilesh Yadav, son of Mulayam Singh Yadav left the seat.
SP fielded Akilesh's wife, Dimple Yadav in the constituency which went into polling on Nov 7. The results of the Assembly and Lok Sabha by polls were out on Tuesday, Nov 11
