TVS Motors posts 12 pc growth on two-wheeler sales

Bangalore, Nov 2: Despite the fact that the automobile sector is one of the worst affected by the global economic slump, TVS Motors continues to post massive two wheeler sales accounting for a growth of 12 per cent in Oct 2009.

The leading two-wheeler manufacturer has been consistently posting growth in sales since seven months. The company reported sales of 131,029 two wheelers as against 117,101 units in the corresponding period of the previous year accounting for the double-digit growth.

With sale of 868,509 units in the current financial year up to Oct 2009 versus 819,037 units in the 2008, the company's cumulative growth stands at 6 per cent.

Recording sale of 118,563 units in Oct 2009 as against 100,088 in the corresponding period of the previous year, the domestic sales of the company surged 18 per cent, the company said in a statement released on Sunday, Nov 1.

The company has sold 28,301 scooters which accounts for 20 per cent of the growth while total motorcycle sales stood at 56,465 units versus 59,217 units in Oct 2008.

TVS Motors is also celebrating the success stories of its products and services.

While TVS Scooty"s 'Women on Wheels' marketing campaign won a Globe at the MAA Globes Awards in Boston; the company successfully launched TVS King Arjun in Kolkata and TVS King LS in Bangalore setting foot into the three-wheeler markets in nine markets.

Apart from this, the Tamil Nadu government awarded the TVS Motor Company"s CSR arm, Srinivasan Services Trust for helping villagers become self reliant and economically independent.
