International seminar on Peace and stability in Afghanistan held in New Delhi
New Delhi, Oct 6 (ANI): A two-day international seminar on "Peace and stability in Afghanistan- The way ahead" began here today.
It is being organised by the United Service Institution of India.
Speakers included Ashley Tellis, Senior Associate, The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and S.K. Lambah, special envoy of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
"General McChrystal (Commander, United States Forces Afghanistan) in a Delphic formulation described the current situation in Afghanistan as serious and in some ways deteriorating. Its certainly a clever choice of words because it conveys without seeking to excessive alarm the fact that there is resurgent Taliban insurgency which if unaddressed is a problem," said Tellis
Lambah said that the problems facing Afghanistan were many and even larger number of solutions was being suggested.
"The problem facing Afghanistan are many even a more larger number of solutions are being suggested. But it is of the utmost importance that there is eradication of terrorism, cessation of outside influence and emphasis on development," said Lambah. (ANI)
