Accused of theft, girl commits suicide in Delhi

New Delhi, Apr 28: Yet another case of harassment and student suicide is reported in the National Capital. A teenage girl allegedly committed suicide after teacher slapped her and the school authorities struck her name of the rolls claiming that she stole Rs 130 from her classmate.

The incident took place in South-East Delhi's Sangam Vihar area on Apr 24. Zeenat Parveen, a Class VIII student of government-run Bachan Prasad Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya, hanged herself in her residence at 10 am after her mother was informed by school authorities that her name was struck off from the rolls.

Zeenat was accused of stealing money on Apr 23. She went to school next morning, but the teacher refused her permission to enter class. Later the teacher called her mother to come and meet her. When the mother reached school, she was informed by the officials of their decision to strike her name off the roles. Zeenat's family denied the allegation that of theft slapped on her.

This is the third incident reported of student losing life due to the school authorities negligence or high-handedness.
