Vajpayee health worsens; put on artificial ventilator

New Delhi, Feb 7: Former Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee has been put on the mechanical ventilator at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) as his condition deteriorated on Friday, Feb 6 morning.

Vajpayee was admitted to hospital on Tuesday, Feb 3 when he complained of fever and chest infection.

AIIMS medical superintendent D K Sharma said, “Mr Vajpayee"s condition deteriorated Friday, Feb 6 morning; he is in the intensive care unit and has been put on a mechanical ventilator."

“Mr. Vajpayee"s blood pressure, liver and kidney function tests are normal. On Thursday he did not have fever and his lower respiratory tract infection seemed better. But this morning his condition worsened."

Meanwhile, the senior leaders of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) met up in Nagpur after hearing the news of Vajpayee. The leaders have expressed concern and wished him speedy recovery. Party spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Rudy said: “We learn that acute chest congestion led to respiratory problems and Vajpayeeji has been put on a ventilator. The National Executive Committee expressed its concern and prayed for his early speedy recovery."
