400 sacks of ammonium nitrate seized in Jharkhand
Dhanbad, Jan 16: Jharkhand police seized 400 sacks of ammonium nitrate from Dhanbad. The recovery was made from a quarter of Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) during a raid by the members of the Special Task Force.
The
seized
sacks
were
from
a
consignment
looted
from
a
police
station
in
December,
2008.
One
accused,
Jitender
Singh,
from
whose
quarters
the
recovery
was
made,
was
also
arrested
by
the
officials
and
taken
into
custody.
"A consignment of ammonium nitrate was looted from Ramgarh police station in December and around 400 bags of that consignment were recovered from Jitender''s house. The Ramgarh police had come and arrested some in this connection. On their directive only the recovery was made and the person was also arrested." said Sheetal Oraon, Superintendent of Police, Dhanbad.
Though used as a fertiliser, ammonium nitrate can also be mixed with other materials to make a powerful explosive.
