Rythu Sangham demands compensation for crops
Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, Nov 30(UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Rythu Sangham, affiliated to the Communist Party of India (CPI), today demanded the State Government provide liberal compensation to farmers, who lost their crops in the recent cyclone.
Claiming losses to standing crops in last week's cyclonic rainfall that lashed five districts would be around Rs 1,000 crore, Sangham State General Secretary Ravula Venkaiah told newspersons here the damage to the standing paddy crops and commercial crops was extensive.
He demanded the government come to the rescue of farmers in Guntur, Prakasam, Nellore, Kadapa and Chittoor Districts, who are in distress, by extending adequate compensation.
Vehmently opposing the takeover of fertile paddy fields for setting up Special Economic Zones and Coastal Corridor Project, he demanded the withdrawal of Government Orders, pretaining to the corridor and Petroleum Chemicals and Petro-Chemicals Investment Region (PCPCIR) in the interest of farmers.
He said the Rythu Sangham had planned for 'Chalo Hyderabad' stir on December 4 to highlight the problems of farmers with support of all parties.
