Pilot dead as Army helicopter falls into Ramganga river in UP
Bareilly, Nov 26 (UNI) A pilot was killed, while a Major suffered critical injuries when an Army helicopter crashed and fell into the Ramganga river here today.
According to official sources, the army chopper named 'cheetah' was on a routine flight from Bareilly situated Army aviation base, when the accident took place.
Pilot Sachin Bhatia (26) died on the spot, while Major K D Singh (34) was injured as he managed to swim out safely. He has been admitted to a local military hospital for treatment.
The reason behind the accident was yet to be known.
Senior police and administrative officials, including Senior Superintendent of Police B K Singh, District Magistrate R Ramesh Kumar have rushed to the spot.
The dead pilot was said to be a resident of Sirsa in Haryana, while the Major hails from Gurudaspur in Punjab. Both the officials were of Sikh regiment.
