Two injured in clashes, police open fire in Darhal
Jammu, Nov 23 (UNI) Two people were today reportedly injured as police opened fire in air to disperse the supporters of two mainstream political parties when they entered into a clash in Darhal constituency of Rajouri district, which is witnessing polling as a part of second phase of Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections, sources here said.
''The supporters of Peoples Democratic Party and National Conference candidates entered into a heated exchange of words followed by a clash as they were shouting slogans in favour of their respective parties outside polling station no 17, in Taddaj area of Darhal constituency,'' sources told UNI.
The security forces, however, opened fire in air to disperse them in which two of them sustained injuries.
The injured have been identified as Imtiyaz Ahmed and Riyaz Khan.
''The fire was opened in air to disperse them and to avoid any untoward incident near the polling station,'' Kamal Saini, Deputy Inspector General of Police Rajouri-Poonch range said.
Sources further said no other incident of violence has been reported so far in other constituencies as elections were being held peacefully and fairly.
