JK: Army officer's body recovered under snow

Srinagar, Nov 22: Body of Lieutenant Ameak Kumar, who was buried alive under a snow avalanche along with six other soliders in Gurez sector in the Kashmir valley on Nov 17, has been recovered, official sources said on Saturday, Nov 21.

They said rescue teams rushed from nearby the Army camps and recovered the body of Lt Kumar from under a huge snow avalanche.

With this, the total bodies recovered so far has risen to three.

On November 19 bodies of LNK Saiba Baskow and Seopy Chandar Kumar were recovered by the rescue teams.

On November 17, the day 76 per cent polling was recorded in Gurez constituency, a group of seven soldiers, led by a major, searching for three local porters who went missing, were caught in snow storm near Nowshar Nar in the Gurez sector.

It is believed that all the seven soldiers of 8 Bihar Regiment and three porters have were buried under snow avalanche.

Rescue teams are still searching the area for other bodies, they said.
