Second Islamic Peace Conference commences in Mumbai
Mumbai, Nov 14 (UNI) The second edition of the Islamic Peace Conference commenced in the city today and was attended by over 90,000 people.
Imam of Makkah Masjid-e-Haram Shaikh Adel Al-Kalbani led the Friday prayers before the commencement of the conference. It has been organised by the city-based Islamic Research Foundation (IRF).
In the conference, scholars from various different Islamic institutions have come together to deliberate on global issues facing Islam.
The conference was held in the backdrop of the global concerns about the Muslim community's association with terrorism and Jihad.
While talking to mediapersons here, president of the IRF Dr Zakir Nayak said the scholars attending the conference would address some of the burning issues that face India and the world, and attempt to explore solutions for the global peace, and peace within the country.
He said each speaker will suggest solutions from within Islam, addressing issues like 'Islam and Terrorism', 'Justice for Peace', 'Human Rights', 'Media and Islam', 'War or Peace', 'Concept of God in Major World Religions', 'Role of Religion in Communal Harmony', 'Life of Prophet Muhammad', 'Modern bio-medical issues in Islamic Perspective' and 'Women's Rights'.
Dr Nayak said in the past decade, the picture painted about the Islam was not the real one. ''It was a distorted, mostly maligned image that was shown to the world.'' ''This platform does not seek to impose our thoughts on anyone.
We just tell them the real message and the true spirit of Islam.
Last year, the event was a success and had dignitaries from across the globe participated. This year we hope to repeat the success,'' he added.
