Bangalore, Nov 13: Senior Congress Leader and Union Minister of State for Labour Oscar Fernandes on Thursday, Nov 13 defended the decision of All India Congress Committee(AICC) president and United Progressive Alliance(UPA) chairperson Sonia Gandhi who accepted the resignation of Congress leader Margaret Alva.

Talking to newspersons here, the Minister said Congess members, including himself, should air their views at the appropriate platform by maintaining decorum and decency. No party would allow its members to wash its dirty-linen in public, he added.

Mr Fernandes said the party had not only demanded an explanation from Ms Alva but accpeted the resignation also which she had tendered, as we had no other option but to accept it, he added.

The minister said global economic slow down would not affect the Indian economy. India would withstand economic recession as the country was not overtly depending on exports and outsourcing, unlike China, which relies more on exports.
