APJ Abdul Kalam to deliver jubilee address at M G University
Kottayam, Nov 6 (UNI) Former President A P J Abdul Kalam will deliver the silver jubilee lecture at the jubilee celebrations of the Mahatma Gandhi University here on November 9.
He will also launch the open access digital archives developed by the university library, Vice chancellor Jancy James told a media confrence here today.
The digital archives provide search facility for doctoral dissertations of the university through web, based on the directive of the University Grants Commission. Providing open access to theses would liberate the knowledge developed through public-funded research from the libraries, besides enhancing quality of research and accountability of the scholars.
It would also help avoid duplication of plagiarism.
A bibliography of the 1006 theses for which the university had awarded Ph Ds during the last quarter century, along with a bibliometric analysis would be released on the occasion, she said.
Mr Kalam would also hand over the key of the 100th NSS Bhavan built for the homeless by the National Service Scheme (NSS) Volunteers.
Dr James said Defence Minister A K Antony would inaugurate the silver jubilee Pareeksha Bhavan constructed at cost of Rs 8.28 crore on November 12. Chief minister V S Achuthanandan would inaugurate the valedictory function of the year-long jubilee celebrations next month.
