Sonia condemns Assam blasts
New Delhi, Oct 30 (UNI) Congress President Sonia Gandhi today condemned the serial blasts in Assam, and said all should join together to put up a sustained and comprehsneive fight against terror.
I am extremlely distressed and saddened to know about the bomb blasts that rocked Guwahati today killing and injuring a number of innocent people," she said in a statement here.
She said "Terror shows its ugly face once again in our country and we should unitedly combat this menace in a sustained and comprehensive manner." Condemning the "heinous and mindless crime perpetuated by those who are inimical to our country," Ms Gandhi called upon the authorities to immediately provide relief to the unfortunate victims.
She conveyed her heartfelt condolences to the members of the bereaved families in this hour of great sorrow.
AICC Media Department Chairman Veerappa Moily denounced the serial blasts, and said this was the most cowardly act which needed to be strongly condemned.
"It is unfortunate that at a time when country's unity is threatened by the enemies of the nation, our responsible political parties would contemplate on makng politics out of the terrorist acts." Calling for a combined attack on the terrorists who were out to threaten the unity and security of the nation, Mr Moily said the country would have to rally around both the state and the centre to combat terrorism or insurgency which targeted the innocent pople.
