Chandigarh, Oct 24 (UNI) A new lake that will provide an ideal site for people to perform religious ceremonies like "Chhat Puja" and "Ganesh Puja" has been constructed in Chandigarh.
Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Union Territory Administrator, General (retd.) S F Rodrigures will dedicate the lake, the third in the union territory, to people on October 29 next.
The new water body, constructed in the southern sector by the Engineering Department, will provide a place of relaxation and seclusion like Sukhna Lake to the residents of southern sectors.
Besides serving as a recreational centre for the residents, the new lake will decongest Sukhna and Dhanas lakes.
While the Sukhna Lake is dying down due to silting, the Chandigarh Administration has put a blanket ban on performing rituals on the bank of the lake to enhance its beauty.
The Administration had approved the construction of third lake of Chandigarh at sector-42 near Sardar Beant Singh memorial to perform rituals following public demand.
Minister of state for Finance and Parliamentary Affairs Pawan Kumar Bansal had announced Rs 30 lakh for the construction of a lake in Sector 42 for Chhat Puja on the demand of the Poorvanchal Sabha.
The lake complex comprises a water body, spread over an area of 3.25 acres, 2 entry pavilions, walking track with interlocking pavers and 2 decks to perform rituals.
The outline of the lake has been protected by constructing retaining wall with stone masonry.
