I don't want to be victimised by Orissa police: Nun
New Delhi, Oct 24 (UNI) Two days after the Supreme Court declined to order a CBI probe into her alleged rape during the recent communal violence in Orissa's Kandhamal district, a nun today came out before the media for the first time and pressed for an inquiry by the Central agency as she had lost faith in the Orissa police.
Charging the police of being friendly with the perpetrators of violence, Sister Meena, who came to the press conference with her face partially covered by a scarf, said, ''The state police failed to stop the crimes, failed to protect me from the attackers. They tried their best that I did not register an FIR, not make complaints against police, did not take down my statement... .'' ''I was raped and now I don't want to be victimised by the Orissa police, I want a CBI inquiry,'' she said, reading out from her own hand-written statement.
Voicing his disappointment over the way the Orissa Government has handled the Kandhamal violence, Dr John Dayal, who heads the All India Catholic Union (AICU) and is a member of the National Integration Council(NIC) and who was also present at the press conference, questioned the Orissa police's neutrality.
''We will file a review petition in the Supreme Court to press for a CBI probe into all the violent incidents that had taken place in Kandhamal from 2007 till yesterday,'' he said.
