While the woman was leaving the jail after the identification parade, Sompal, who was the last to be arrested, was being sent to judicial custody. The parade was held following the orders of the CJM. The 'victim" identified two accused — Pankaj and Harpeet Singh Dalli — who had allegedly molested her and attempted to rape her along with three others. ASP (central) Madhur Verma said the parade was held in the presence of two officials of German Embassy, the woman"s father and SDM (south) Prerna Puri.
Both the accused had given their consent for the identification parade in the district courts on October 3. The other accused, including Sompal, had refused to be a part of this. SDM (south) Prerna Puri would file a detailed report on the parade in the district courts within the next two days.
A top cop said, ''Though the three accused have not given their consent for the identification parade, this also goes against them under Section 54 of the Evidence Act.""
However, Harnek Singh, a resident of Ambala and a relative of an accused Pankaj, claimed that Pankaj had helped rescue the girl from the clutches of other accused.
