Hyderabad, Oct 4 (UNI) The opposition Telugu Desam Party(TDP) will take its agitation against the Babli Project taken up by the Maharashtra Government to New Delhi shortly to put pressure on the Centre to direct the upper riparian State to halt the project.

Talking to newspersons here today, senior TDP leader and MP E Dayakar Rao threatened that the party would resort to direct action at the project site, if there was no response from the Centre.

Alleging that the Andhra Pradesh Government had not argued properly the riparian dispute case in the Supreme Court, Mr Rao demanded an apology from State Irrigation Minister P Lakshmaiah to the Warangal district farmers, whose 18 lakh acres of land would lose assured water, as and when the project was completed.

The TDP leader alleged that the Maharashtra Government had not taken up the project till the TDP was in power and got emboldened after the Congress came to power both at the Centre and in the State.

The State Government had failed to submit to the apex court the pictures of the project activity, even though the TDP had provided the same to the State Government, he added.
