Oppn threatens stir in support of weavers
Hyderabad, Oct 3 (UNI) Opposition parties today threatened to lay a siege to the camp office of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy on October 22, if the Government failed to concede their six-point charter of demands before October 17.
Their demands, included waiver of all loans take by handloom weavers and loans at the rate of three per cent to the weavers.
The representatives of the opposition parties, including the Telugu Desam Party, Bharatiya Janata Party, Telangana Rashtra Samiti and Nava Telangana Praja Party, urged the Government to come out with a new policy to ensure a minimum income of Rs 6,000 per month for each of the handloom weavers in order to enable them to go for powerlooms and also assure marketing facilities for their products.
They demanded constitution of a separate department for weavers and handloom workers.
