Chandigarh, Sep 30 (UNI) Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Union Territory Administrator, General (Retd) S F Rodrigues has called upon the people to give further thrust to the Voluntary Blood Donation Movement to save the lives of needy patients.
In a message on the eve of National Voluntary Blood Donation Day, he said that requirement of blood in hospitals was mounting day by day and there was a need for generating awareness about the voluntary blood donations.
Emphasising that adequate and safe blood transfer was the key to an effective healthcare system, General Rodrigues said that donation of blood by professional donors led to various problems and should be discouraged.
He said that blood donation was for a great humanitarian cause without barriers of caste, creed and religion in saving unknown precious lives.
He said ''this day reminds us of our duty towards suffering people and also provides an opportunity to convey our gratitude to those people who have given their blood voluntarily for others whom they do not know.'' The General thanked all the voluntary blood donors for their contribution towards this noble cause and expressed the hope that a new generation of blood donors would follow them in providing safe blood for use, to save a life.
