NSG waiver is vindication of SP stand: Amar Singh
New Delhi, Sep 6 (UNI) The Samajwadi Party today hailed the NSG waiver that has cleared the deck for the Indo-US nuclear deal to become operational as a great ''moment for the nation'' and as a vindication of its own stand on the issue.
''It is the SP's timely help that played a crucial role in saving the treaty,'' SP general secretary Amar Singh said reacting to the news of waiver coming in from Vienna.
The waiver has proved that the stand taken by the SP was correct, he said.
Congratulating Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Mr Singh said the main issue before them was development of the country and they chose it at the cost of their political interest.
Meanwhile, he did not let go the chance to attack the BJP for ''standing along China and Pakistan'' in opposing the nuclear deal.
While the Left stand had always been known, it was very surprising to find Mr Advani taking a stand that endorsed the Chinese view, he said.
He even blamed his party's arch rival BSP for its ''opportunistic alliance'' to oppose the deal.
The Samajwadi Party had in July expressed its all support to the Congress over the controversial deal and voted in favour of the trust motion on the issue in Parliament on July 22 that helped save the Manmohan Singh Government.
