Massive rally in Andaman to back domicile policy
Port Blair, Aug 30 (UNI) Island Protection Forum (IPF), an NGO today organised a peace rally in Andaman to demand re-introduction of domicile policy.
Members of IPF and few allied organisations were protesting against the recruitment of Non-Andamanesen here.
The rally started from historic cellular jail and marched upto Raj Niwas.
Later a senior delegation of IPF met the Secretary to the Lt.
Governor and submitted a memorandum demanding job security to the unemployed youths, re-introducing domicile policy.
Their demands include introduction of Inner-line permit, to check influx of population, immediate recruitment on all vacant posts in the administration assured by the prime minister during his 2005 visit (soon after Tsunami) and to continue existing pattern of seat allotment for island students till the establishment of medical and engineering colleges here.
We have given 60 days time to the administration failing which we would demonstrate at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi Mr Mustafa, Convener of the IPF told UNI.
According to official sources Arvind Ray, Secretary to the Lt.
Governor have assured all possible steps to redress their grievances.
