Detained Lankan fishermen handed over to city police
Visakhapatnam, Aug 30 (UNI) Eleven Sri Lankan fishermen, taken into custody by the Coast Guard for fishing in Indian territorial waters 75 km South-East off Visakhapatnam yesterday, were handed over to the city police today.
City Harbour Police Station Officer Y V Naidu told newspersons that they would be produced before the District Court today.
The fishermen -- Haywan (48), Fernando (37), Jatmil Roy (39), Perera (44), Makshil Fernando (38) Ranjit Perera (40), Kalrikan (37), Kantilal (40), Lal Fernando (38) and Baby (42), in two boats, -- were apprehended by the CG when they accidently drifted towards the Indian waters.
