Threat of flash floods in Vadodara city recedes
Vadodara, Aug 13 (UNI) The threat of a flash flood in the Vishwamitri river, passing through the Vadodara city has receded with the district recording zero rainfall during the last six hours.
The river, which crossed its danger level of 28 ft at the Kalaghoda circle in the city early today, has slowly started receding with the improvement in the weather condition.
The authorities had evacuated more than 3,000 people from villages and low-lying areas in the city to different shelter camps last night. The water level at Kalaghoda circle had started showing a receding trend and was flowing just below the red mark.
However, situation in more than a dozen societies and markets in low-lying areas in the city remained grim for the second consecutive day today, as the civil authorities are yet to address their problem of waterlogging and drinking water shortage. The worst affected areas included Kisanwadi, Gayatrinagar, Manjalpur, Sama, Ajwa and Warasia.
The western part of the city still remains cut-off from the eastern part because of waterlogging at Alkapuri railway underpass.
