Agartala, August 11 (UNI) Tripura Home department today issued security alert, following the usual boycott call of the Independence Day celebration given by nine frontline outlawed militant outfits of North East including National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT).

Official sources said here that security forces has intensified counter insurgency operations across the state. BSF made extra deployment on the border outposts, sources added.

All the police stations and security posts had been asked to remain alert to ensure peaceful celebration of the Day. Police had launched search operations on the Airport, hotels, bus terminus and National Highways from yesterday.

Like previous years, nine banned outfits of the region had reportedly called for the boycott of Independence Day celebration to protest against the Indian establishment, officials said.

Meanwhile, NLFT militants distributed leaflets, asking people to boycott I-Day celebration in the interior locations of the state.

'' We are against celebrating Independence Day as it failed to fulfill the aspirations of the indigenous people. We urge them to bycott celebration for the cause of arms struggle against Indian rule'' one of the militant said.

Tripura's border with Bangladesh has virtually become volatile after the intelligence inputs that fundamentalist groups like HUJI and BJM were finding ground in the state.

BSF authorities were asked to maintain strict vigil along the 856 km Indo-Bangla border, police said adding additional security forces were deployed in vulnerable areas to prevent any untoward incident.
