Monsoon puts normal life out of gear K'taka

Bangalore, Aug 10 (UNI) Southwest Monsoon threw normal life out of gear in parts of the Karnataka today.

In Kodagu, the catchment area of River Cauvery, rainfall in the last two days threw normal life out of gear forcing authorities to declare a holiday for schools tomorrow.

The inflow into the KRS Reservoir considerably increased the water level which was currently 117 feet and expected to touch full level of 124.85 feet anytime.

Heavy rainfall was reported in Davanagere, Belgaum, Mangalore, Dharwad and Gulbarga.

In Gulbarga,vehicular traffic on Gulbarga-Hyderabad National Highway was severely disrupted.

Six houses collapsed due to rain in Dabalgundi and Humnabad Town.

The water level in Almatti Reservoir was reaching its maximum level of 518.55 mt as against full level of 519 mt.

The inflow was recorded at 52,624 cusecs and the outflow maintained at 25,473 cusecs.

Seven crest gates of Narayanapura Project were opened and 66,000 cusecs discharged to the downstream Jurala Project in Mahaboobnagar in Andhra Pradesh.

This was for the first time the crest gates of Narayanapur were lifted to release water downstream in the season.

In Mangalore, fishermen were warned against venturing for fishing due to rain and heavy winds.In Koppal, four people were injured when roof of a house collapsed.
