SUCI condemns planting of espionage device in Himalayas by CIA
Kolkata, Aug 05 (UNI) The Socialist Unity Centre of India (SUCI) today condemned the reported planting of a nuclear-powered espionage device in the Himalayas by the CIA and called for a ''worldwide anti-imperialist movement.'' In a statement, SUCI general secretary Nihar Mukherjee expressed concern at the revelation that in 1965, one Robert Schaller, an amateur mountaineer, was commissoned by the CIA to secretly plant a nuclear-powered radioactive device on the Himalayan peaks to spy on the then socialist China.
''This shows how the notorious espoinage wing of the US imperialist regime has been carrying out seditious activities throughout the globe, violating International laws,'' Mr Mukherjee said.
''The episode also brings to the fore how India is being covered under the spy network of the CIA, threatening our country's internal security as well as exposing us to serious nuclear hazards,'' he added.
Mr Mukherjee also urged the people to initiate an anti-imperialist movement in protest against the US imperialism.
