Fear psychosis as 'psycho killer' man has beaten

People residing in West Mambalam, Vadalapalani and Ashok nagar Areas were in a grip of fear as five people, including three watchmen, were killed, with their heads smashed and body half-burnt, over the last few days. The top brass of the city police, taken aback by the spurt in such killings, appeared clueless and believe that a psycho killer was on the prowl. As the killings took place in the wee hours, 20 special teams were formed and patrolling intensified across the city.

At this juncture, a group of people spotted a man, who was found moving under suspicious circumstances near Vadapalani in the early hours on Friday, July 18. Attired in a black pant and a matching shirt, people mistook him to be the psycho killer, chased him and beat him black and blue.

Acting on information, police rushed to the spot and rescued him. Police identified him as Kannan, a wanted history-sheeter, and detained him for interrogation.

Meanwhile, a scuffle broke out between the public and the police, who virutally fought a pitched battle on the streets. Using the situation, an angry mob damaged the windscreens of a vehicle parked in the road. Police resorted to a cane charge to disperse the agitating mob.The situation, however, returned to normal.
