Bhopal, Jul 15: Ahead of the Assembly election scheduled this year end, electricity tariff for metered agriculture consumers in Madhya Pradesh has been reduced to a record 30 paise per unit after granting rebate of 45 paise on certain conditions.

The Madhya Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission has approved a total rebate of 45 paise per unit on metered agriculture connections for 2008-09, says its notification.

Fifteen paise rebate will be given on installing ISI-mark motors and another 30 paise on use of friction-free PVC pipe and foot valve, besides shunt capacitor of proper rating.

Earlier, the minimum charge for metered agriculture consumers has been fixed at 75 paise per unit taking into consideration the subsidy provided by the state government.

The special rebate is provided as an incentive to metered consumers using standard equipments.

The Commission has taken a serious view of removing meters from 1.5 lakh agriculture consumers in the Western region itself and directed the Western Region DISCOM to provide only metered connections for agriculture purposes.
