Rajkot, Jun 29: Parent will be booked if their child drives vehicle without a proper licence, City Police Commissioner Sudhir Sinha said.
While addressing a public meet at Karansinh High school on the occasion of ''Save Energy Save Nation' drive yesterday, Mr Sinha said police will now book parents for the offence, instead of the errant minor child.
The top policeman said they will be booked under section 5/181 of the Motor Vehicle Act for allowing their minor children to drive without a licence.
The motive behind this move is to reduce the number of road accidents involving school children and ensure their safety, Commissioner said.
Meanwhile, Traffic police are also planning to hold awareness classes in 300 schools of the city. Selected policemen of the city traffic police will give a 45-minute lecture at various schools, he said.
School students have also been asked to use bicycles only.
