Raipur, Jun 22 (UNI) Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Ajit Jogi today said the Congress would announce the names of its candidates two months ahead the state assembly elections.
Talking to UNI here, Mr Jogi said electoral prospects got affected by finalising list of candidates at the last moment. Hence, it has been decided to announce the names of candidates at least two months before assembly polls.
''In fact, efforts are being made to finalise the list even before that, although, it may not be released in public and indications be made to respective candidates,'' he said.
Mr Jogi said ability to win elections and dedication towards party are two main criteria for selecting the candidates.
On whether party candidates who failed to secure victory in previous assembly polls would be provided party ticket, he said no formula has been arrived upon so far for providing the same in this regard. Decisions would be taken when selection committee starts functioning.
Asking if he has emerged stronger with recent reshuffling within the party, Mr Jogi said the Congress has emerged stronger and results were visible from the top level till the bottom with fresh enthusiasm within the party.
However, he added, he had the support of the Congress President that provided him strength. Reshuffling within the party and unity among partymen would go a long way to improve poll prospects during upcoming assembly elections and Lok Sabha elections, he added.
The Congress leader said healthy competition for party ticket was welcome but those dissatisfied after names of candidates were announced, would meet disappointment.
On the BSP making efforts to strengthen its presence within the state, he said the BSP would not cause any loss to the Congress in Chhattisgarh.
