L-G inaugurates 'Green Shopper' campaign in National Capital
New Delhi, Jun 3 (UNI) Delhi Lt Governor Tejendra Khanna today inaugurated the country's first Green Shopper Campaign here to counter the ''polybag menace''.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Khanna said NGOs Green Forum and Chetanalaya would distribute jute and cotton shopping bags in Delhi-NCR to counter the polybag menace.
He said this would also promote responsible consumerism by forging poor-to-poor collaboration between self-help groups across the country. ''With bahujan hitaya-bahujan sukaya (well-being of all-happiness for all) approach, one could make society more equitable and harmonious,'' he said.
The L-G said in a bid to restrain the use of plastic in day-to-day affairs of society there is a need for better coordination between a denizen and the government... ''even NGOs can play an important role in this regard.'' Delhi BJP president Harshvardhan, President Dastkari Haat Samiti Jaya Jaitley, Archbishop of Delhi Vincent Concessao, Director of Chetanalaya Susai Sebastian, and Convener of Green Forum Udayan Namboodiry, were also present on the occasion.
