State Excise Duty Department team raids houses in Waghadi area

Nashik, May 31 (UNI) A special squad of the State Excise Duty Department raided houses in Waghadi area of the city today and destroyed thousands of litres of country-made liquor.

A team of State Excise Department raided houses in Waghadi, an area known for illegal production of country-made liquor. The production was stopped five years ago, but again there were complaints by residents of the area, recently, about a resurgence of the business.

In reaction to those complaints, the raid was conducted this morning. Though, initially, some women from the area gheraoed the team, the drive continued, after police protection was provided to the team. During the raid, 60-70 houses in the houses in the area were searched. Thousands of litres of country-made liquor and chemicals required for their production were consequently destroyed.

Police also seized other materials, required for production the liquor and arrested some people. The gherao created tension in the area for sometime.
